Vertical Platform Lifts

Porch, deck, garage, indoor, and commercial access solutions that use far less space than a long ramp—fully planned and installed by a licensed contractor.

When a VPL is the right answer

Direct wheelchair access when a ramp is too long or impractical.

A vertical platform lift carries a wheelchair, scooter, or standing passenger between two landings. It is often used at porches, decks, garages, raised entries, stages, and split-level spaces.

  • Smaller footprint than a code-compliant ramp for significant rise
  • Residential and commercial configurations
  • Indoor or weather-rated outdoor options
  • Enclosures available or required for certain heights and settings
  • Turnkey site work, electrical, permits, and inspections
Outdoor vertical platform lift installed beside a deck staircase
A vertical platform lift can provide direct wheelchair access beside an existing stairway while preserving the rest of the deck.
Residential or commercial?

Home access

Residential VPLs

Best for porches, decks, garage entries, and indoor level changes. Priorities usually include compact footprint, simple operation, weather durability, and clean integration with the home.

  • Harmar VPL-400X for compact residential travel
  • Atlas Nano or Mini Vista for tight locations
  • Highlander II or Vista for greater rise and capacity
Public access

Commercial VPLs

Used for businesses, churches, schools, offices, community spaces, and other facilities. Commercial work requires careful attention to accessibility rules, code, use patterns, landing protection, and inspection.

  • Commercial-rated Harmar Highlander II configurations
  • Atlas Vista and enclosed Vista options
  • Project-specific enclosures, gates, controls, and site construction
Brands & models

Matching equipment to travel, environment, and use

Harmar Enclosure Weather protection and applications requiring guarded travel Project- and code-dependent; commonly used at greater travel heights
Atlas Nano / Mini Vista Compact residential indoor or outdoor sites Small-footprint alternatives for limited spaces
Atlas Vista Residential or commercial, including higher capacity needs Configurations from 750 to 1,000 lb and up to 160 inches travel

VPL FAQs

What property owners need to know

Is a VPL better than a ramp?

For a small rise and abundant space, a ramp may be simple. As the rise increases, the required ramp length and landings can become substantial. A VPL often preserves space and provides easier everyday operation, but it requires power and maintenance.

Can a VPL be installed outdoors?

Yes, when the model and site are suited for outdoor use. We account for drainage, corrosion exposure, weather protection, pad conditions, and enclosure or canopy requirements.

What changes for a commercial installation?

Commercial projects may require a commercial-rated model, different controls and guarding, accessibility coordination, engineering, permits, and formal inspection. Use and jurisdiction determine the final design.

How high can a platform lift travel?

The models shown on our current product line range from short residential rises to roughly 14 feet or 160 inches, depending on brand, configuration, enclosure, and approval. We verify the exact allowable travel before proposing equipment.

Does Carolina Housing Solutions build the landings and pad?

Yes. As a licensed general contractor, we can include normal concrete, excavation, carpentry, gates, electrical work, and related site preparation in a coordinated proposal.
